PC for radiod - an even better option

After setting up the PC with Ubuntu, which is working, we found out that Ubuntu has a program that is not always working without problems: SNAP ! This is updating some programs and can cause problems in our applications.

We don't like snap, and therefor we decided to kick out Ubuntu for this PC and installed Debian12. Debian is not using snap.

And ka9q developed radiod for Debian, so why not use that program if you work, like we do, with a separate miniPC for the control of the RX888MKII with radiod.

We created a Debian12 .ISO stick and rebooted the PC with this USB-stick to install it. On the PC (RYZEN5 mini)  it takes about 15 minutes to install it. We used the same username and password and installed SSH also with it.

Via remote connection over SSH we got messages like : "The system will suspend now!"

even though suspend is disabled. The following configuration works in our setting.

See: https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=156005

In /etc/system/sleep.conf:

[Sleep]

AllowSuspend=no

AllowHibernation=no

AllowSuspendThenHibernate=no

AllowHybridSleep=no

After this we didn't got any suspensions anymore ore messages over SSH.

In earlier installs we installed wsprdaemon, which also installs ka9q sw (to make sure we keep compatibility between the two).

But we decided to only install ka0q sw, because we don't need wsprdaemon in this miniPC. And we keep track of compatibility ourself.

We followed the instructions of Phil Karn to install ka9q radiod software.

Look here for the instructions.

Of course we need to set up the radiod@rx888-wsprdaemon.conf file in /etc/radio ! We copied the file from the Ubuntu system and installed it in the Debian12 system.

So, after rebooting we now have a RYZEN5 machine connected to the RX888MKII radio, multicasting all the configured radio channels.

We use this option for the Maasbree websdr and call it WEBSDR 2.1.
